Object life cycle

The purpose of this article is to introduce you to the life cycle management of objects

What is the life cycle?

An important concept of data governance is the notion of the life cycle. This concept should make it possible to:

  • Distinguish between recognized information and information in the state of creation
  • Ensure that all the necessary information on an object is available
  • Identify reliable elements
  • Validate information

To manage this notion of the life cycle, DataGalaxy allows managing governance status or object life cycle that allows knowing the progress of the object creation.

What are the types of status?

5 statuses are managed by the platform:

  • Proposed: corresponds to the object creation,
  • In revision: corresponds to an object under review/correction,
  • In validation: corresponds to an object in validation,
  • Validated: corresponds to an object validated by his owners or administrators,
  • Obsolete: corresponds to an object obsolete.

The status change is not unidirectional: a released status can be downgraded to revised status.

Changes do not result in notifications to the owners of the object.

Note: With the new user access control, the matrix of rights according to status doesn't apply. You can create access control rules by referring to the page: Manage users access rights or to the FAQ Access control management
